FAQ — Automated Implant Planning with the Blue Sky Plan Automatic Implant Wizard
1. What is the Automatic Implant Wizard in Blue Sky Plan?
It's an automated workflow that plans a guided implant case for you — aligning the optical and CT scans, segmenting the teeth, placing the implant, and generating the surgical guide. You set up the case, review the result, and export.
2. Can it plan an immediate-extraction case?
Yes. You flag the tooth to be removed, and the wizard extracts it from the plan, selects an implant size, and positions the implant into the socket automatically — then you confirm placement.
3. What does "AI-generated tooth" mean here?
Where a tooth is missing or extracted, the software designs a proposed tooth based on that patient's anatomy, giving you a restoratively driven target for implant position.
4. How long does the automated planning take?
Typically about two to three minutes on a standard laptop, depending on your computer's speed.
5. Does it work with my implant system?
Blue Sky Plan supports 80+ implant systems. You select your company, drill kit, and implant from the workflow list; if a company isn't listed yet, you download its package and it appears.
6. What files do I need to start?
A CBCT/CT scan and an optical (intraoral or model) scan of the relevant arch. Adding the opposing arch is optional but recommended for occlusion-aware planning.
7. Does automation replace clinician judgment?
No. The clinician reviews everything — scan alignment, implant position (including a 360° tangential view), and the guide window — and can adjust, re-mark, or replace any implant before fabrication.
8. How do I get the surgical guide made?
After you confirm the plan, the wizard fabricates the guide on screen. You can export the guide, drill report, and case file, or use "Send to LabPronto" (U.S.) to have it manufactured for you.
9. Is Blue Sky Plan free to use?
Blue Sky Plan is free implant-planning software from Blue Sky Bio. For printing and manufacturing Blue Sky Plan credits can be bought to export part (surgical guides, aligners, IBTs, Splints) to an STL file for printing.
10. Where can I learn the full workflow?
Watch the step-by-step tutorial on the Blue Sky Bio YouTube channel, which walks through an upper-arch, two-implant immediate-extraction case from setup to export.
